Privacy

Last updated: 24/07/2026

This policy explains what personal data Shoulder to Shoulder ("we", "us", "our") collects through this website, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. We are committed to handling your data lawfully and transparently under the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

Who we are

Shoulder to Shoulder is the data controller responsible for your personal data.

You can contact us about anything in this policy at info@shouldertoshoulder.uk

The "Email your MP" tool

When you use the tool to contact your MP:

  • You enter your postcode. This is sent to two external services to identify your constituency and MP: postcodes.io and the UK Parliament Members API. We do not store your postcode, and we do not receive it back.

  • The tool then opens an email in your own email application, pre-filled with a letter and your MP's address. The email is sent from your own email account, by you — it does not pass through us, and we never see, receive, or store the emails you send to your MP, nor your name or address that you add to them.

In short: we do not collect any personal data through the act of emailing your MP. That exchange is between you and your MP's office.

Signing up for campaign updates

If you choose to sign up for updates, we collect:

  • Your name (if requested) and email address.

  • The date and record of your consent.

Why we use it / lawful basis: we send you campaign updates only where you have given us your explicit consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a), and PECR for marketing emails). Ticking the sign-up box is optional and is never a condition of using the "Email your MP" tool.

We use Squarespace to manage sign-ups and send emails. Your data is stored and processed by them on our behalf.

Cookies and analytics

This website is hosted on Squarespace, which sets certain essential cookies needed for the site to function.

We use Squarespace Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. This may collect anonymised or pseudonymised usage data and set cookies. Non-essential cookies are only set with your consent via our cookie banner.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your data or share it for anyone else's marketing. We share it only with the service providers ("processors") that help us run the campaign:

  • Squarespace — website hosting, managing sign-ups and sending update emails.

  • postcodes.io and the UK Parliament Members API — receive your postcode at the moment of lookup only (see above).

We may disclose data if required by law.

How long we keep your data

We keep your sign-up details only for as long as you wish to receive updates, or until the campaign ends — whichever is sooner. When you unsubscribe, we remove your details from our active mailing list 14 days.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;

  • ask us to correct inaccurate data;

  • ask us to delete your data ("right to erasure");

  • restrict or object to how we use it;

  • request a copy of your data in a portable format;

  • withdraw your consent at any time — this won't affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

To exercise any of these, contact us at info@shouldertoshoulder.uk. We will respond within two weeks.

Unsubscribing

Every update email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email us at [CONTACT EMAIL] and we will remove you.

Complaints

If you're concerned about how we handle your data, please contact us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator:
